BIND brings together a selection of photo books which explore the interconnected themes of gender, sexuality and patriarchy in personal and social spheres across the world. While some narratives in these books inform us about certain marginalised identities by unearthing stories which don’t fit binary readings, others are a celebration of different voices and their empowerment. Yet other works are in themselves an act of rebellion. The books in this selection challenge stereotypical representations of gender and hegemonic notions of patriarchy and heteronormativity. Through documentation, poetry, resistance, or imagination, they invite the viewer to silently immerse into the lives of those who are subjugated.
