Sandra Calligaro and Jannatul Mawa will present on their works showcased at Photo Kathmandu 2016. Sandra Calligaro’s work “Afghan Dream” delves into ordinary situations, moments in-between, where tension is tangible, emotions perceptible, but the conflict rarely visible. Jannatul Mawa’s work “Close Distance” positions otherwise disenfranchised domestic workers in Bangladesh at the centre with their mistresses to explore the possibility of creating bonds of intimacy among women who, according to dominant norms, are unequal. Both use photography to document those rendered invisible. Artists will also talk about their journey as photographers to continually create work that defy/circumvent convention.
