Photography in the last decade has undoubtedly become the most widely used tool of communication and artistic expression. The advancements in technology have also made photography globally widespread and easy to engage with. Millions of images are being generated and shared across the world on a daily basis. Operating a mobile-phone camera is probably easier than writing a grammatically correct sentence in any language, and one can quickly learn advanced techniques through numerous instructional video tutorials on Youtube. What remains to be learned by aspiring professionals and serious enthusiasts? What is the role of educational institutes offering courses in photography in such a scenario? This talk will deliberate upon these topics along with highlighting the pedagogical structure of the Masters programme in photography at NID, India, and the relevance of the medium in the subcontinent.
