Politiken is a Danish newspaper that has won several awards for its design, format, photography and brand. The newspaper has received much attention from the photography community for the importance it accords to the use and expression of photography on its pages.

This workshop will discuss how Politiken works with photo and other visual elements. It will be seek to investigate how the establishment of linkages and a shared language facilitates a more immersive visual engagement in the editorial process.

The workshop will be split into four stages;

1. Ideas
2. Production
3. Editorial content management
4. Final expression

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Thomas Borberg began as a freelance photographer in 1993. In 1996, he started at The Danish School of Journalism in Aarhus with an 18-month internship at Politiken in Copenhagen. He started working as a Staff Photographer at Politiken in 2000 and then went on to become Photo Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper in 2009. Since then, he has worked as a Photo Editor on different book projects across Europe, as a Jury Member in Pictures of the Year contests in various countries, and as External Examiner for education programs at newspapers around Europe for photographers and editors.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

This workshop is designed for editors (both text and photo), photographers and designers who work with newspapers, magazines and online portals. Publishers and people who own media companies are also welcome.
