Rishi Singhal was born and raised in New Delhi in the decades of 70s and 80s, which is when he picked up his first camera. In the early 90s he moved to Ahmedabad to pursue higher education and graduated from the Centre for Environmental Planning & Technology as a construction engineer in 1998. In 2002 Rishi went to Rochester, NY to study at the Visual Studies Workshop, followed by MFA in photography at Syracuse University in 2003. In 2005, he did a residency at the Centre for Photography at Woodstock, and also received a grant from Light Work. In 2007, Rishi moved back to New Delhi to set up his independent practice, and also took up teaching. Since 2012 he has been teaching at the National Institute of Design’s masters programme in photography.
