A quarter century after his Burmese fathers death, his lost family stumbled upon his son Pablo
Richard Bartholomew, in his early teens, escaped from Burma to avoid persecution from the invading Japanese troops. Walking to India with his parents on the treacherous Stillwell route, this exodus is famously known as “Trek out of Burma” where thousands died en-route of malaria, cholera, starvation and fatigue.
In New Delhi, he finished his high school, college, married, had children and made India his home. Never did he return to to Burma, nor mentioned his forgotten family.
26 years after his death, Hazel Mackey, his cousin, had the urge to find him. In 2011, searching the internet with her son James they found he had died in 1985 at the age of 58 but were able trace and connect his son Pablo. This connection has led Pablo to go back to explore his new found family and rediscover the country they live in and is an ongoing on project….
