There is more to photography than the act of just taking pictures. A lot needs to happen before and after a photograph is taken. This 2-day workshop will introduce participants be the basics of research, ethics, caption writing and digital workflow.
WHAT WILL THE WORKSHOP COVER?
• Ethics: The workshop will encourage participants to discuss “rules” that govern what is considered to be truthful and faithful representation of reality through photographs.
• Research: How should a photographer prepare before going out to shoot in the field? Why is this preparation important?
• Caption writing: The workshop will focus on how to successfully convey the context/pretext of a photograph in writing as to best deliver the message to the public.
• Digital Workflow: How to organize your photos so that you can find them when you need them? Participants will be introduced to photo file management + editing softwares like Adobe Bridge/Lightroom/Photoshop.
• Participants should bring the following to the workshop
• Personal Laptops
• 10 photographs taken by the photographer (digital files)
ABOUT THE TUTORS
Kishor Sharma is a freelance documentary photographer. He has been teaching photography at Kathmandu University and with photo.circle for the past 4 years. He strives to explore and understand human societies through the medium of photography. Kishor completed an advanced visual storytelling course from the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Aarhus, Denmark in 2013. In 2014, he was awarded with Asia Prize in Photo City Sagamihara 14th General Photography festival organized in Sagamihara Japan for his documentary work on Nepali nomads. His works has been appeared in many national and international outlets and has exhibited in Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Finland, France, UK and Japan.
Shikhar Bhattarai is a freelance photographer based in Kathmandu, Nepal. His passion for photography grew when he started to understand the power of the visual medium as a way to share stories, with a particular focus in travel and documentary photography. As an avid traveller, he has set foot across many parts of his diverse country and is interested in its geographical and anthropologic histories and narratives.
Prawin Adhikari writes stories, translates, and writes screenplays. Prawin is the author of VANISHING ACT. He is also an assistant editor at La.lit, a literary magazine.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
This workshop is designed for photographers and photo journalists working in the media industry interested to learn more about the art and process of presenting photographs in a professional manner.

• Five travel grants of Rs. 5000 each are available for participants from outside Kathmandu valley. Please state in your application if you would like to apply for a travel grant.
