Arijit Bhattacharyya is an Indian artist, working predominantly as a painter. A graduate of the Surat School of Fine Arts, specializing in Painting, he is currently studying for a MVA at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, again in the Department of Painting. His works mainly concentrate on notions of urban space, and possibilities of redesigning urban settlements. He took part in the Khoj Peers 2016 Artist Residency, as well as the All India Students’ Workshop at C.A.V.A Mysore. In 2015, he received a grant from the Indian Chinese Association and the Humdasti Foundation for a community art project at the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival in Kolkata. He also took part in the Kolkata International Performance Art Festival in 2015. His works have been shown in group exhibitions across India. In 2016 he received the Jagdeep Smart Scholarship, awarded annually to the best student in the department of Painting at the Surat School of Fine Arts.
