Ashmina Ranjit is a Kathmandu-based conceptual artist with a strong interest in gender politics. A large body of her works operates from a feminist framework challenging binary oppositions; exploring, exposing and challenging pre-existing power structures. Currently, she is performing Bipad: the Death of the State, a performance piece protesting against unequal citizen rights for female Nepali. Ashmina believes in the potential of art to provoke and invite dialogue around society’s most pressing issues. As director and co-founder of LASANAA, a collaborative community arts centre, Ashima actively works to develop a grassroots ‘artivism’ (art+activism) network in Nepal. She also runs NexUs Culture Nepal, a self-sustainable art cafe and gallery.
