My father calls all of the imitated North Face stuff sold in Nepal, North Fake. It brings people warmth at a cheap rate. I love North Fake stuff. (Excerpt from North Fake)
– Maia Ruth Lee
Nepal has been home for Maia Ruth Lee where she spent all of her childhood. Lee was familiar with Sutherland’s work and invited him to teach a photography workshop in Kathmandu where she was again residing as an adult. They met in Kathmandu for the very first time in the summer of 2010 and since then they have embarked on many adventures together, documenting along the way. North Fake holds dear to their hearts as this was their first collaboration, the photographs they shot in each other’s presence was another form of communication; an intimate dialogue. Lee and Sutherland moved to New York and returned to Kathmandu in 2013 to be wed. They are currently living and working in NYC.
